KUALA LUMPUR – The boyfriend of a woman who allegedly insulted Islam at a comedy club is currently in police custody.

Federal police secretary Datuk Noorsiah Saaduddin said the police team from the Criminal Investigation Department’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) arrested the man, here, on Sunday.

“The man was remanded for three days from Monday until Wednesday to assist the investigation,” she said in a statement on Monday.

Noorsiah said they would request to extend the remand of the woman, who was arrested on Saturday, after her remand period ends on Tuesday.

“The investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney General’s office with the proposed charges,” she said.

Previously, a 54-second video portrayed a woman who took off her scarf and clothes while performing a stand-up comedy that went viral on social media, which garnered criticism from the public.
