SHAH ALAM - The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah worries that there are symptoms of division among Malays, especially the Malay political leaders.

Through a statement, His Highness said that based on the current situation, the obvious disputes among Malay political leaders could threaten the unity, harmony and political stability in the country.

"I do not intend to interfere in political affairs and administration of the country, however, it's my responsible to give advice and views to correct the situation so that the division of Malays and Malay political leaders can be stopped immediately.

"It is also to ensure that the interests of the Malay people can be maintained without setting aside the rights and interests of the non-Malay people in this country," he said in a statement shared by Selangor Royal Office.

Sultan Sharafuddin also decreed that Malay political leaders need to realise that the development and progress of the country depend on stable leadership and if leaders failed to do so, other races would lose respect for Malay leaders and would not give solid support to the Malay government.

"Besides practising good leadership behaviour and not arguing with each other, Malay political leaders must also cooperate with other political party leaders to ensure the development of the country is made a priority for the sake of a comfortable life for various races,” the statement read.

Commenting further, His Highness said that he was aware of the rampant defamation going on in the society, where the dissemination of slanderous news which had not been determined its authenticity and the culture of attacking each other had threatened the harmony of society in our country.

"All this betrayal and hatred have become a culture in our society. We need to realise that slander can bring great sin and the wrath of Allah S.W.T.
