SHAH ALAM - The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) announced four new leadership appointments to establish a more relevant, efficient and diversified capital market and the appointment effective today (July 1).

Datin Azalina Adham has been appointed as the Executive Director of the newly created business group Strategy and Policy to leverage her vast experience in the financial and capital markets.

She will help drive SC’s strategic direction in a number of critical areas including corporate planning, risk management and international relations to further develop the capital market.

Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, who has over 20 years of legal experience, is the new Enforcement Director overseeing enforcement planning and management, investigation as well as prosecution and civil enforcement departments.

Dr Wong Huei Ching is now the Digital Strategy and Innovation Executive director after leading several key functions for the past five years.

Joining SC in 2017, she was in corporate planning and strategy and instrumental in the development of the Capital Market Masterplan 3.

SC said her appointment serves to further the potential of technology and innovation in developing a more inclusive and sustainable capital market for firms and investors.

Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hamid, a media and communications specialist, has been appointed as Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Chairman's Office, with the primary responsibility of strengthening the SC's engagement and communication strategy with key stakeholders.

He returns to SC after 12 years in the industry where he was the chief executive officer (CEO) of Melaka Harini Ini Sdn Bhd and media adviser to Melaka Chief Minister, as well as CEO and Group Chief Editor of New Straits Times Press. Jalil was a Reuters journalist over 18 years.

Meanwhile, Yew Yee Tee and Shamsul Bahriah Shamsudin begins their new roles as General Counsel and Director, Intermediary and Fund Supervision on April 29, as previously announced.

Yew will provide policy, legal, and strategic advising support to the SC on all internal and external legal concerns and Shamsul Bahriah will be in charge of authorisation and licensing, as well as market intermediary supervision.

SC Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin said he was pleased to welcome the new appointments to the executive team.

“Their combined wealth of knowledge and experience, drawn from the public and private sectors, will further strengthen the SC’s capabilities and effectiveness to promote market growth and integrity in a rapidly evolving environment that embraces sustainability, competition and innovation,” he said in a statement.
