Almost 30 per cent drop in Petaling Jaya's crime rate

PETALING JAYA – Petaling Jaya district police headquarters records a 29.96 drop in crime rate from January until June 28 as compared to the same duration last year.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the declining number was a proof that his officers were committed in protecting the people and prevent crime activities. prevention.

"A comparison of the crime rate index from Jan 1 to June 28, 2021 recorded 2,333 cases while a total of 1,634 cases were recorded in the same duration this year, which showed a drop by 699 cases or 39.96 per cent.

"This shows that we are committed in preventing crime in Petaling Jaya and now we are working towards increasing the public perception towards the police force," he told Sinar Harian when met in Petaling Jaya after the force’s monthly assembly here.

In the assembly, two lower ranking policemen were promoted to sub inspectors from sergeant majors, four sergeants were promoted to sergeant majors and 13 corporal were promoted to sergeant while several others were given a certificate of appreciation for their work.

Fakhrudin said the highest committed crime in the state were motorcycle theft.

"The main crime in Petaling Jaya is vehicle thefts, we have made multiple arrests which definitely reduced the numbers.

“The 'hotspots' for motorcycle thefts are in the National Housing Project (PPR) areas such as Lembah Subang, Desa Mentari and Taman Medan.

"We constantly hold campaigns at the areas with the help of local neighbourhood committees and local councils," he said.

Meanwhile, Fakhrudin said the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division was ranked the first in Selangor for its excellent enforcement, investigation, charges and traffic summons settlement.

He said the district recorded the highest arrest rate involving drivers under the influence of alcohol through Op Mabuk that was done frequently to prevent the issue.

He added his team was committed to bring awareness through commercial crimes campaigns with its 2022’s Anti Scam Campaign.
