SHAH ALAM – The issue faced by two students who were given T grades, which is considered as absent even though they were present and sat for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Bahasa Melayu exams was finally solved.

This was confirmed by Dr Nurul Shahnaz Ahmad Mahdzan, 49, who is a mother of one of the former student of Sekolah Menengah Bandar Utama Damansara 3 in Selangor who faced the issue.

She said her daughter Nur Adeela Huda Muhammad Azmil received excellent results with an A- while her friend Nur Qamarina Munirah Mustaqim received an A for the subject.

"Alhamdulillah, the issue was taken action immediately and both of them were relieved to finally find out their full results, especially knowing that they scored As in the subject.

"I would like to thank the Education Ministry (MoE) officers who helped resolve the issue quickly," she said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Tuesday.

On Saturday, two students questioned the actions of the Examination Board that gave them a T grade in their SPM results for Bahasa Melayu subject after sitting for the exams.

The T grade received made it difficult for them to apply for universities as Bahasa Melayu was a core subject that requires a pass in the examination.

Once the issue was highlighted, the duo received an e-mail to get their new SPM slips at school on Monday.

Nurul Shahnaz said this after both of them received their results.

"Since the (full) results are known sooner, they could update their applications to universities including the possibility of applying to private institutions as well," she said.

Nurul Shahnaz suggested that MoE should reevaluate the system of marking exam papers similar to the ones before it was changed to online.

"I feel that physical markings are better to avoid these kind of issues.

Online markings have their weaknesses and ultimately could affect students," she said.
