Police track a man over non-existent project, duped RM2 mil from victims

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah police are tracking a man known as 'Datuk Yusri' to investigate a fraud case involving a non-existent road upgrade project in the state causing losses close to RM2 million.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said the investigations were made by its Commercial Crime Investigation Department following eights reports lodged relating to the case.

"In this case, a man known as Datuk Yusri Yusuh had duped the victims by offering a road upgrade project that did not exist in Sabah.

"To secure the project, the victims had been asked to pay a deposit between RM300,000 to RM650,000 where the total amount made to the man was RM1.93 million," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said police were looking for the man known to aid in investigations.

"The cooperation of the public is needed.

"If anyone knows the whereabouts of the man involved, please contact nearby police stations or the investigation officer Inspector Tilmansah Wasli at 016-5785962 or 088 529761," he said.

Idris said the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
