Tok Mat betrayed a movement to replace Zahid, claims Tajuddin
MUHAMMAD ZAKWAN NAZARALYPETALING JAYA – Former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has claimed that there was a meeting between political party leaders to bring down party president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The meeting, he said was organised at his home and was led by Umno's number two Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan or commonly known as Tok Mat and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“In May 2020, Mohamad wanted to create a memorandum to demand Zahid to step down for Umno’s sake.
“We wanted to ask him to step down in a proper manner, not by kicking him out. It’s not nice,” he said, during a press conference at a hotel, on Tuesday.
He said Tok Mat requested for a survey to be carried out within division heads on the matter.
“There were 130 division chiefs who agreed, 18 from Perak and other states as well," he said.
However Tajuddin, the Pasir Salak MP claimed the movement eventually failed after Tok Mat betrayed and made a U-turn after being threatened by Zahid’s men.
“However, things changed. Instead of demanding Zahid to step down, the decision was to make Najib the chief of Barisan Nasional,” he said.
In 2019, Najib was appointed as the Barisan Nasional advisory board chairman.
