Mapim launches earthquake emergency relief fund for Afghanistan
SHAH ALAM - Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (Mapim) has launched the Earthquake Humanitarian Relief Fund in Afghanistan in collaboration with the Afghan Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
The disaster that claimed more than 1,000 lives and injured thousands more had the Mapim calling for humanitarian non-government organisations (NGO) in the country to join the effort to help the victims.
Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said plans of humanitarian missions to move to the site will be discussed in the near future.
“Mapim is ready with any NGOs at the national and international levels to coordinate the delivery of emergency aid to Afghanistan immediately.
“The main focus now is shelter, food, clean water and medical treatment,” he said in a statement.

It has been reported that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan at about 1.24am local time on June 22.
The earthquake struck hardest in the rugged east along the border with Pakistan, as people slept, killing more than 1,000 and leaving 1,500 injured.
