Puzzled over 'T' in SPM result
Two SPM graduates want the Education Ministry to do an immediate review, worried that it will be difficult for them to apply for the centralised university unit (UPU) online application.
NAZRIN ZULKAFLIPETALING JAYA - Two Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates have questioned the Examination Board for giving them a T, which means absent for the Bahasa Melayu subject, although they sat for the exam.
Such grade would make it difficult for the former students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Utama Damansara 1 to apply for a spot at a university as it was a requirement to pass the subject.
Nur Adeela Huda Muhammad Azmil said she will take action against such as suing the Education Ministry if her examination paper was missing and had affected her grades.
“I was a bit surprised when I got the SPM results because I sat for the Bahasa Melayu paper. I reported this to the teacher and was informed that I was not the only one affected.
“If I could not get my exam paper, it might be difficult to apply to any universities. Bahasa Melayu is a compulsory subject to pass. If there is no grade, there is no way for me to apply to any place to further my studies.
"I hope this could be resolved immediately," she said when met by Sinar Harian here on Friday.
Nur Adeela Huda added that a request for a review has been made online but there was still no response so far.
“They open (the review system) in two weeks. I hope the review could be expedited," she said.
Another SPM graduate, Nur Qamarina Munirah Mustaqim said the online system that was used to mark SPM examination papers may be the cause of the incident.
"Everything is online now. Before this, the examiner has the students' examination papers. So with online marking, I think our names were overlooked while the marks were being entered.
“I hope the appeal and review will not be late because I am afraid that I would not have time to apply to the university admissions unit (UPU) which closes on June 28," she said.
Nur Qamarina said she also hoped that the incident that happened to her and her friend would not happen to anyone else..
"I feel very sad and disappointed. We studied hard and sat for exams but when the results come out, we got a T instead,” she said.
