KOTA KINABALU - Architects and engineers in Sabah have been advised to take up professional exams to gain higher professional status.

Sabah Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin said there are only two qualified architects.

"Sabah needs a lot more professional architects and engineers.

"We are embarrassed, the Federal and State need professionals to conduct business but we do not have enough people certified," he said during Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony of Sabah Public Works Department (JKR), here.

Bung Moktar who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah said there are policies for architects and engineers to gain qualifications.

Bung Moktar has also asked his staff to assist him in bringing Sabah out of poverty.

"I see Sabah as a state that has the potential to rise. I believe Sabah can advance faster than other states in two or three years," he added.

"I'm not saying Sabah can't make it, however it is up to us working together to quicken development projects that have been passed by the government without any delays even for a day," he said.
