Zero Covid-19 death for the first time in 18 months - KJ
SHAH ALAM - Malaysia for the first time in the past 18 months reported zero deaths due to Covid-19 on Sunday.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin noted that the last time the country recorded no deaths due to the virus was on Dec 18, 2020.
In a Twitter posting late last night (11.21pm on June 19), he stated the country’s ongoing transition to endemicity has been calibrated and data-driven.
“Let us pray it continues to pay off,” he added.
For the past 14 days, Malaysia saw 27 deaths in total with Klang valley and Selangor tie at first place with seven reported cases, followed by six in Perak, four in Penang, three in Johor and two cases in Melaka.
Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis and Sarawak all reported one case of death in the past two weeks.
The remaining states recorded zero deaths.
The latest Covid data showed a total of 25,944 active cases yesterday with 96 per cent (24,906) under home quarantined while 15 people at the Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC).
A total of 1,000 (3.9 per cent) cases were hospitalised, eight in unventilated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while another 15 were ventilated.
