CYBERJAYA - The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating the founder of a beauty product for allegedly uploading indecent and obscene content on social media.

In a statement, MCMC said a probe on three individuals from Kuala Lumpur and Penang had been carried out with the police on Wednesday.

“MCMC takes the matter involving the founders of the beauty products and celebrities who had uploaded indecent and obscene content on Instagram and Tik Tok application, " it said.

It added further investigations are underway under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998.

A maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year or both can be imposed if convicted.

“The public especially celebrities should set a good example and sensitive in uploading such content, " he said.

The 'tepuk punggung' or loosely translated to smack the butt recording had faced criticism.
