Sick father witnesses son's outstanding SPM results
KOTA KINABALU – As he was sitting for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) last year, Ahmad Nabil Abidin’s father suffered a stroke, but it did not stop the 18-year-old to achieve outstanding results and being named the best student in the state.
Nabil, from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Agama Kota Kinabalu could not hold back his tears as he received his SPM result which was given to him by Deputy Minister of Education II Datuk Mohamad Alamin today.
Nabil said he was not expecting to achieve the best results in Sabah, especially considering that he was tested with his father’s illness but he managed to give it his all.
"Even though my father is sick right now, he still made it a point to come to the school with me to take the SPM results.
"Before this, I had to fight my emotions to do well in examination even though at the same time I was worried about my father’s health," he said when asked by interviewers at the SPM Results Announcement Ceremony 2021 in his school.
He said the prayers from his parents gave him the strength to keep going which made him achieve nine A+, two A and one A- in the examination.
He said he is now applying to several institutes of higher education and scholarships to further his studies.
"I hope to continue my studies in the field of my choice and I hope to be a doctor because looking at my village in Kampung Pimping, Membakut, not many would choose this profession.
"With my father being unwell, this also gives me the motivation to study and help many families and people," he said.
Meanwhile, another excellent student, Muhammad Siraj Nor Aslam Mano, 18, admits to being stressed by the recent Covid-19 pandemic which disrupted the school session.
"When the examination was postponed to this year, I was stressed as we had to wait longer but I kept my spirits high to study throughout the time.
"My efforts weren't wasted when I got my excellent results of eight A+ and one A for my SPM," said the teenager who hails from SMK Muhibbah, Sandakan.
Also present during the ceremony was Sabah Director of Education Tah Nia Jaman.
