Selangor Sultan summons state Pas chief
SHAH ALAM - Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has summoned state Pas chief Datuk Ahmad Yunus Hairi to a meeting at the Istana Bukit Kayangan.
In a Facebook post, the Selangor Royal Office said that the meeting lasted for about an hour.
There were no other details posted in the posting.
On June 10, Yunus had urged the Selangor state government to prohibit Muslims from participating in Bon Odori, a day after the Sultan of Selangor said the Japanese cultural festival should be allowed to proceed.
Yunus had further said the state government should take action against any employers who make it compulsory for its Muslim staff to take part in the festival.
The Sultan had said he visited the festival in 2016 accompanied by the then Japanese ambassador to Malaysia and through his observation found that the Bon Odori celebrations did not involve religious elements or rituals. The statement added that the Ruler also culture practised by all communities in the world had some connection with religion.
"Nevertheless over time these cultural practices no longer highlighted the religious elements," it said. The festival is scheduled held at the Shah Alam Sports Complex on July 16 and has been held for over 4 decades to in calculate goodwill among Japanese community and businesses with locals.
