SHAH ALAM - Celebrity Datuk Afdlin Shauki describes the difference between acting and politics as "night and day."
“The only similar thing is that actors act when they get paid, and politicians "act" even when they do not get paid to avoid unwanted situations.
The 51-year-old further said he entered politics because he felt there was a need.
“For 30 years, I have been in the acting industry where nothing radical has changed to help the lives of the people in the industry and working outside is difficult because it is just a problem to try and get things done,” he told Sinar Daily's Politically Frank.
Afdlin, the founder of Yayasan Afdlin Shauki, stated that serving the people is a natural progression from his previous experience working with NGOs.
“We really need someone from the inside to understand the problem and to work the problem.
“Politicians will say ‘yeah yeah we will look into it’ but at the end of the day, they will not look into it,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Johor born said he believes the future of Malaysia is in a multiracial party and not a party that champions one race, adding that while the majority of Malaysians are Malays, other races must be included.
“PKR is a multiracial party that is led by the Malays and I believe in that but we also have many other races and we must be inclusive. I believe Malaysia is for everyone,” he said.
Speaking about the party, Afdlin believes the future of the PKR is bright.
“More and more people will believe in the fact that we as Malaysians must be supportive of each other and help one another.
“I believe that is the future of the country, " he said.
