SHAH ALAM – Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council expresses its disappointment over the government’s failure to call a special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat to present the anti-party hopping law.

In a statement, the party’s council said that its top leaders would hold an immediate meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to discuss the bill and other MoUs that have yet to be implemented.

The council stated that with the approval of the bill, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PH and the federal government would be achieved

“By passing this bill, 15 out of 18 articles in the MoU between PH and the federal government will be achieved, which equals to 83 per cent of the memorandum.

“Three MoUs that have yet to be implemented are setting a two-year or 10-year limit for the Prime Minister, presenting the Parliamentary Service Bill and amendment of Dewan Rakyat meeting’s rules,” the statement read.

As there was no special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat to present the bill, PH anticipated the bill to be presented, debated and approved in the first week of the Dewan Rakyat session which is set to start on July 18.

The statement was jointly issued by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

On April 11, PH presidential council appealed for the proposed amendment to the Federal Constitution and the anti-party hopping bill, agreed upon by them and the government, to be tabled and approved in a Special Meeting of Parliament before the end of May this year.
