Intoxicated driver kills factory worker in a crash

SHAH ALAM - A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by a driver believed to be intoxicated at KM4 of Jalan Bentong heading towards Raub, Pahang, yesterday.

Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the 22-year-old victim, identified as Muhammad Nor Izad Abdul Karim was riding his motorcycle when the four-wheel drive vehicle crashed into him in the 10.15pm incident.

"The four-wheel-drive vehicle driven by a 65-year-old man was driving towards Bentong, and he was believed to have entered the opposite lane and had collided with the motorcycle.

"Police investigation also suspects that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol," he said in a statement today.

Nor Izad, who was a factory worker, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Bentong Hospital.

Zaiham said the driver was detained for further investigation and remanded for seven days and the case is being investigated under Section 44 (1) Road Transport Act 1987(APJ).

He requested the cooperation of anyone who saw the incident to come forward in order to assist in the investigation.

Zaiham also advised all road users to drive carefully and prudently.
