Former Sapura Energy CEO sues Rafizi
KUALA LUMPUR - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Rafizi Ramli confirmed that he received a writ of summons from former Sapura Energy Berhad (SEB) chief executive officer Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin over his statement on SEB’s financial problems.
Rafizi said he received the document at around 11.30pm while he was attending a ceremony in Kuantan, Pahang on May 11.
The writ, he said was to confirm that a suit against him was filed in court through law firm Zul Rafique & Partners over his statement on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement urging the government to inject funds to save SEB.
“I have taken a stand to defend my statement in court because the statement was made to protect the public interest.
“Since 2010, I have gone through 14 cases in court from the Sessions Court to the Federal Court for the sake of defending the people’s money. Most of the cases are related to major national financial scandals such as the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), 1MDB, Majlis Amanah Rakyat, Tabung Haji and the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT).
“So far, I have won all the lawsuits brought against me in court. In the court process, the public can analyse themselves the background details of each financial scandal,” he said in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Rafizi also informed that he will be represented by a team of lawyers led by Ranjit Singh from law firm Ranjit Singh & Yeoh, who represented him in his NFC trial from 2011 until the final appeal at the Federal Court which decided in his favor recently.
“The trial of Shahril’s suit is an important starting point in our effort to ensure that the people’s investment through public investment institutions meet the quality of governance standards for public investment.
“In an economic structure that involves the investment of the people’s funds, stricter framework rules must come into force to prevent people from suffering losses due to the companies’ losses,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rafizi described the latest suit against him as a greeting upon his return to the country’s political arena after almost two years.
“InsyaAllah, I will continue to speak out to protect the people’s funds, even if I have to face more court cases,” he said.
