KUALA LUMPUR - Incumbent Datuk SM Muthu will face a three-cornered fight for the post of president in the Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) election for the 2022-2025 term.

The election will be held during the MAF’s annual general meeting on June 12.

Muthu will be challenged by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and former national woman athlete Nurhayati Karim.

For the record, Shahidan used to helm the national governing body from 2006 to 2012 before relinquishing the post after losing to Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad in the election for the 2013-2015 term.

Meanwhile, Datuk Fadzil Abu Bakar and Datuk Seri V. Pulanthiran will be vying for the deputy president’s post.

Six candidates will fight it out for the four vice-presidents’ posts. They are Nurhayati, Datuk Mark William Ling, Josephine Kang, Datuk R. Annamalai, Syamsul Bani Abdullah and Sallehuddin Satar.

MAF Election Committee officer Datuk V. Subramaniam announced the names of the candidates at a media conference at Wisma OCM here today. - BERNAMA
