Tian Chua: Losing Batu post surprising, but real focus on GE15
SHAH ALAM - "My loss in the Batu post in the recent PKR polls is surprising, but this will never be an excuse and I'll continue my preparations for the next 15th General Election (GE15)," says former PKR vice-president Tian Chua.
He said despite the loss in the recent polls, his work and preparations for GE15 would not change.
"From the beginning, I've been stating why I don't actively participate in this election because the real focus will be the next GE15.
"This poll is just part of the process, but the main thing is the upcoming GE15," he told Sinar Daily.
Tian Chua who had been the Batu Member of Parliament since 2008 said his loss was quite surprising to him but it would not be a hindrance for him to continue being active in the party.
He also said whoever won the party election should embrace the diversity in the party.
"We have to continue to strengthen the party and whoever wins cannot run away from the basic fundamental, which is to embrace the diversity in the party.
"So, no matter who wins whatever position, ultimately the center feature of the party includes different voices, ideological and ethnic groups and that cannot change," he said when asked if Rafizi Ramli’s wave was too strong for him.
Tian Chua said he might have lost in the polls due to fewer voters as it was the festive season and also newcomers who joined about the same time as his opponent P. Prabakaran.
"There are many reasons for my loss and I don't find this as an excuse, so let's move on and let's get ready to face the real challenge, which is GE15.
"I'm quite certain that I'll be contesting in GE15," he said.
PKR elections 2022 ended on Saturday after a re-voting process was carried out at 12 divisions in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Selangor and Sabah.
The official results will be announced at the PKR Congress scheduled to take place on June 25 and 26.
Tian Chua lost by 211 votes difference to Prabakaran, who garnered 517 votes for the of Batu division head post in the party polls.
