Dr M: Rule of law a must to maintain order
SHAH ALAM - Without the rule of law, any country society and organisation will be in anarchy and lead to the societal disintegration, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says.
In his latest Facebook post, Dr Mahathir said rules and laws were a must, as without them, nobody would feel safe and be in a constant state of fear.
Dr Mahathir said however for various reasons certain individuals were placed above the rules and laws.
"For example, the laws forbid killing or murder. Being above the law does not mean that murder can be committed with impunity and there are many laws, rules and policies which cannot be breached even by those above the law.
"Those who are exempted must still avoid breaches which are harmful to society or to individuals. In other words, being above the laws does not mean total disregard for the laws, the rules, and regulations," he said.
However, Dr Mahathir said that Malaysians were tolerant and forgiving.
Hence, even when the privileged abused the rules and laws, they would eventually be forgiven.
Despite the forgiving and tolerant nature of Malaysians, Dr Mahathir reminded the privileged that these too might have limits hence they should avoid abusing the rules and laws.
