SANDAKAN - Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal claims that the establishment of a coalition of political parties does not lead to the unification of the people but only serves as a platform for the interests of certain parties.

He said the coalition of political parties was worthless if it was intended only to meet the required number of parties to rule.

“There is no point in this country being offered to face the 15th General Election (GE15) with merged parties.

“That is not to unite the people, but to unite the leaders’ desires simply to increase the number of people they rule.

“We are aware and know this is only a platform for their interests because there are many countries where the people are united without a coalition of parties,” he said after attending the ‘Leaders with the People’ programme in Libaran, yesterday.

He said this to reporters after being asked to comment on some party leaders who supported the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition but were not present at its launch in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday.

Commenting further, Mohd Shafie who is also the former Sabah Chief Minister said, the coalition does not portray that politics in this country was mature.

“We have until 10 parties being merged, if the party is not given what it wants, they leave the party and form a new party. They conspire but fight amongst each other.

“So where is the direction of the people of this country? We bring the idea as if this is the right offer because it is difficult to win without a coalition. However, those who decide their victory is not the coalition party, those who made them as the government and the people’s representative are the people of this country,” he said.

The Semporna MP appealed to the people to be aware and elect a leader who has a clear policy on track.

“I am confident they will not be able to win if the people decide to choose not a coalition but a leadership that puts the country on track,” he said.
