Michelle Yeoh listed in Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2022
Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has made headlines numerous times throughout her nearly four-decade long career.
The latest thread in the tapestry of her career is being listed in Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2022.
The prestigious magazine described Yeoh as an aristocratic Malaysian beauty becoming the queen of Hong Kong’s male-dominated action cinema.
She was also a lead in the first Hollywood film with an all Asian cast – the much talked about "Crazy Rich Asians" – which features another Malaysian born actor, Henry Golding.
“Without vanity, without fuss, Michelle Yeoh astonishes us with her honesty, humour, and grace and realize we will never get enough of her achieving the impossible,” wrote Time.
Among the many films she starred in includes "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997) and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2016), which she is best known for.
She also starred in "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (2021).
This year she delivered another spectacular performance through her role as Evelyn Wang, a laundromat owner who went through the mind-blowing connection to the parallel versions of herself in the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once".
The actress, model and producer from Malaysia was born on August 6, 1962, in Ipoh and she grew up learning ballet and piano, but was also active in sports like basketball, swimming and rugby.
Wearing the crown of Miss Malaysia winner in 1983 marked the beginning of her career. She then starred in a commercial with Jackie Chan and following that, she landed roles in martial art films.
Yeoh is engaged to Jean Todt, a Ferrari racing executive turned International Automobile Federation president and the pair have been together for almost two decades.
She was previously married to Dickson Poon in 1988, but they decided to part ways after four years of marriage.
Time 100 is an annual listing of the 100 most influential people in the world, assembled by the magazine, which has now become a highly publicised annual event that gives recognition to entrants who contribute to changing the world.
The final list of influential individuals is exclusively chosen by Time editors, with nominations coming from the Time 100 alumni and the magazine's international writing staff.
