Jitra: Police are awaiting autopspy report of a student's death at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Sintok, last Saturday.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Rodzi Abu Hassan said they had received a report of the 21-year old female student, and the case as been classified under sudden death for now.

Malay daily, Harian Metro further reported him as saying initial investigations showed the student had a seizure but are still awaiting for further medical report.

UUM Sintok in a statement said there are also awaiting for further reports on the death. Its corporate communication unit said the student R Vinosiny was a was a Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems) student.

"We are waiting for the autopsy report from Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar's forensic department.

However, UUM will help ease the burden of the deceased’s family by giving out appropriate assistance to them.

“The vice-chancellor and the university express our condolences to the deceased’s family,” UUM said.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini quoting her father R Sivakumar, 56, said Vinosiny has been studying online from their home due to the pandemic.

"I only sent her back to the campus on May 14 and now she has left us forever,” he was quoted as saying.

Sivakumar claimed that when the university management called him at 3pm last Saturday, he was only informed that his daughter fell and became unconscious.
