KUALA LUMPUR - Putrajaya has received proposals from private companies to build more highways in Klang Valley with several proposals approved, said the Works Minister today.

Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof added the Works Ministry are looking at the proposals for new highways to connect Klang Valley to other areas.

“Some new highway construction proposals have been approved while others are still under scrutiny.

“We are looking into it and hope that with this approval, the network in the Klang Valley will improve to fully solve the congestion problem with the construction of the new highway,” he said at his ministry's Hari Raya open house held at Kompleks Kerja Raya, Kuala Lumpur, today.

Also present at the event were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique and Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah.

He said this is under Highway Network Development Plan reviewed every 5 years over improvements needed to look at ways to reduce traffic jams and boost the usage of public transportation.

More cars on the road, he said as caused massive traffic jams. “The rate of vehicles is increasing, and the fact that it continues to increase means the existing roads are not able to accommodate that amount.
