Residents evacuated after landslide in Taman Pertama, Cheras

CHERAS - Residents affected by a landslide incident at Lorong Selangat, Taman Pertama here will be moved to a nearby hotel, said City Hall Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah.

Their nightmare began about two years ago after a nearby construction work.

However, residents say their calls have gone unheard.

KM Chong, 50, said he has been living in the area for over 20 years and not once has he ever encountered of cracks on the wall.

"I have been here for over 20 years, and I have never encountered such an incident ever since I lived here except for the last two years, " he told Sinar Daily.

The father of two said that was when the piling work started and and "we could feel tremors everyday."

Chong further said the residents have raised the matter to City Hall but no action was taken.

"We are are yet to receive any responses from them.

"We are angry and annoyed since we have been living here almost all my life, and I love the neighborhood because we know each other," he added.

Commenting further, he said he might need to move out from the area for the safety of his family as the cracks at their homes are getting wider due to the construction.

However, the mayor has given his assurance that they are now looking into permanent solutions.

Mahadi said the issue was raised after the construction work started which has caused the double storey house to collapse.

"Following the incident, six other houses in the area were told to evacuate for safety purposes," he said, adding that stop work order has been issued to the developer.

"The developer will also start wall strengthening work to withstand construction work," he said.

The rendered eight other homes unsafe for occupancy.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said in a statement had said that its operations centre received a distress call at about 2.52pm notifying them of the incident along Lorong Selangat.

It said a fire rescue tender truck and an emergency medical rescue service vehicle, with seven personnel from the Bandar Tun Razak Station, were dispatched to the scene following the call.

No deaths or injuries were reported.
