KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia recorded 1,817 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday, bringing the total tally to 4,491,320, according to the health ministry.

The new infections included three imported cases and 1,814 local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Two more deaths have been reported from the pandemic, bringing the death toll to 35,643.

The ministry reported 3,389 new recoveries from COVID-19 in the Southeast Asian country, bringing the total number of patients cured and discharged to 4,429,166.

Currently there are 26,511 active cases, with 40 of them held in intensive care and 23 in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 13,706 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered on Sunday, and that 85.5 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 82.7 percent are fully vaccinated and 49.2 percent have received booster jabs. - Xinhua
