Give way to ambulances, help us save lives - Health DG
SHAH ALAM - It is the laws and regulations in Malaysia to give ambulances the right of way on the road.
However, there were still drivers who refused to do so.
In a video shared by Facebook user Ka Cheng Saw today, a driver of a white Honda car could be seen obstructing the path of an ambulance.
Despite hearing the loud siren of the ambulance, the driver who was on the fast lane of the highway was seen casually driving, refusing to give way to the emergency vehicle.
Netizens commented on the video pointing out the driver’s selfishness and calling for the police to take action against the driver.
Health director-general (DG) Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah who shared the video on his Facebook account expressed his surprise that there were still people who would do such a thing.
“Astaghfirullah, there are still drivers who are selfish and deliberately do not want to give way to the ambulance even though the ambulance siren has long been sounded behind the car,” he wrote.
A Facebook user then commented that it was within the Health DG’s jurisdiction to ensure enforcement.
To this, Noor Hisham responded that as a doctor, life and death were always in their hands and he had shared the video to create public awareness.
“Being a doctor, life and death is always in our hands. As for this case enforcement is one which is under the police but education is another hence I reposted this to create public awareness and education. Please help us to save lives,” he said in his reply.
