SHAH ALAM - After unexpectedly being removed from his safe parliamentary seat in Kapar during GE14, G Manivannan hopes to win the PKR vice president's post in the party's internal elections.

He has three goals to achieve if he wins the seat.

"There are three things I want to bring to the party.

"These would be engaging with grassroots leaders and members, giving chances to whoever that has the capabilities and capacity to become a great candidate for the party, and upholding the education and business sectors within the community, especially the Indian community,” he shared on Sinar Daily Politically Frank segment.

He emphasised on the fact that candidates who won tend to be on their own and forget about the grassroots leaders and members of the party, hence why he would engage with them more.

He also added that he would like to bring training, good modules and campaigns for young or new leaders of the party.

Manivannan said that education and business opportunities would improve the lives of Indian party members, along with others in the party.

“This is also why we, along with Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah, have initiated Ayuh Malaysia, which carries the ideas and prospects of the future of this country. We want to give back not only to the members but also to the public at large,” he said.

When asked about his chance of winning the PKR vice president's post, he was optimistic as he went through the preparations needed for the party election.

“I am optimistic and I think I have a good chance because the grassroots members will agree with our notion and the doctrine that we are approaching at this point.

“With Rafizi Ramli and the team, we are upholding the message of our ‘big family’ instead of the ‘big tent’ concept, which we opposed because what we need is to focus on our grassroots members and boost our strength and identity,” he said.

Manivannan added that he supported PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli as they shared the same mindset and expressed his thoughts when asked about his removal from a safe parliamentary seat in Kapar in 2018 and sent to Hutan Melintang state seat, where he lost.

He said it was a political decision achieved among the party members.

“It was sudden but I was not removed. Instead, it was a political decision whereby I think it was no secret that everybody knows I was against Azmin Ali for some reasons.

“Azmin Ali was involved in some decisions between the party, where it ended with Kapar seat given to Abdullah Sani, Kuala Langat seat given to Dr Xavier Jayakumar and I was unfortunately, or fortunately, sent to Hutan Melintang,” he said.
