Proposal to dissolve PAS irrelevant, says Ahmad Yahya

SHAH ALAM - PAS is not merely a party that fights for Islam as the federation’s religion in the constitution, but it also fights for Islamic principles aqidah and syariah as a guide, hence the call to dissolve the party is irrelevant.

PAS Central Committee chief Datuk Haji Ahmad Yahya said the party used Islam as a guideline in politics and organisation, as required in its constitution under Clause 3 (Principle), Clause 5 (Purpose of PAS), Clause 6 (Efforts) and Article 7 (Law and Authority).

“The PAS Central Committee took note of the statement by UMNO Secretary General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, who suggested that PAS should be dissolved because Umno already has an Islamic agenda as they had amended its party’s constitution in 2019 instead of just fighting for the Malay’s struggles.

“(However,) PAS central committee believes that the proposal for PAS to be dissolved is irrelevant as the clauses under the Pas constitution is far (more comprehensive) compared with Clause 3.1 of the Umno’s constitution,” he said in a statement today.

Ahmad said the party expressed its gratitude for the changes made to Umno’s constitution in 2019, because the amendment of Clause 3.1 is in line with what PAS has been fighting for since its inception in 1951.

“We are ready to help Umno ensure the changes made are not just on paper and that they are sincere in upholding Islam as advocated by PAS,” he said.

Earlier, PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man rubbished Ahmad Maslan’s proposal to dissolve the party, saying that it would never happen.

He said Umno was the one that should be dissolved instead since the party had only recently put Islamic policies as its focus compared to PAS.
