No double standards in accepting refugees in Germany, says EU ambassador Rokas
SHAH ALAM - Allegations made against Germany that it is being biased in taking in refugees are far-fetched from its original intention, said European Union (EU) ambassador to Malaysia, Michalis Rokas.
This comes after media reports said Germany is currently displacing the Afghanistan refugees to take in the Ukrainian refugees in their country.
"This is totally wrong because EU has always been open even during the Syrian war, as well as helping those who are politically persecuted or whose lives are at stake," he told Sinar Daily.
Clarifying further, he said they are not biased against any refugees as they have facilitated the evacuation of over 7,000 endangered Afghans in European camps.
"There is currently a massive scale of the exodus that we are supporting as well.
“We created a structure of 36 billion Euros so that they can establish facilities which include hospitals, schools and even universities," he added.
Rokas further said such misinformation and propaganda news needs to be cleared as there is no proof to indicate double standards in taking refugees.
"The allegations are totally wrong and we have the proof. If you see the numbers, we have hundreds of thousands of Afghans and Syrians in Germany and they also have full support from the host government,” Rokas added.
The Wacana English Edition was held in collaboration with Eu in conjunction with Europe Day on Monday.
Aside from Dr Blomeyer, 15 other EU ambassadors to Malaysia also attended the dialogue which include Hungary Ambassador Dr Petra Ponevacs-Pana and Poland Ambassador Krzysztof Debnicki.
Also in attendance were Karangkraf Group Chairman Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, Karangkraf Group Executive Director Akmal Eirfan Mohamed Fauzi, Sinar Karangkraf Chief Executive Officer Farah Hussamuddin and Sinar Karangkraf Editor-in-Chief Rozaid Rahman.
