GEORGETOWN - Police are urged to probe allegations of a private car driver allegedly said to be the son of an MP for using two traffic policemen along Jalan Bukit Gambir, near here.

Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai has urged for a full investigation immediately on the driver and the two riders.

“The function of the traffic police is to control the traffic. Not to pave way for children of MPs," he said.

In a statement, he further said ministers need to follow road rules and they do not have any privileges of being accompanied by the police except during official matters.

“How can a child of an MP have that privilege when an MP who has served for many years do not have that privilege," he asked.

This came after 20-second video footage that went viral on social media yesterday, uploaded by a social media user, anwarazeez. The video clip showed two policemen were escorting the vehicle which was allegedly driven by a son of an MP.

The video was criticised by social media users voicing out dissatisfaction for using the enforcement for personal reasons - to keep the roads clear of traffic in Penang.

The Penang police have so far said they have open investigation papers over the two traffic policemen.
