SHAH ALAM – A security guard was arrested for allegedly breaking into a hotel room in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

Kota Bharu Chief District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said police had received a report on the incident on Thursday at 11.38pm.

In the incident, a man in his 50s and his family members had returned to their hotel room at about 10.30pm only to find out that the room was being locked from the inside.

The man had called the hotel concierge to get the room unlocked.

Once they managed to unlock the door, they were shocked to find an unknown man in his 20s in the room.

“The initial drug screening test found that the man was positive for methamphetamine and he had three previous records related to drug offences,” Rosdi said in a statement.

He added the man was remanded under section 117 of the criminal procedure code to assist in the investigation.

The case was being investigated under section 448 of the Penal Code, if convicted can be sentenced to a maximum of 3 years imprisonment or a fine of RM5,000 or both.

Meanwhile, the hotel management said the incident was an isolated case and they had cooperated with the police to solve the issue.

“The hotel management has met with the guest and offered our full assistance regarding the matter.

“As this is an ongoing investigation by the police, we cannot comment further but we would like to assure our hotel guests that safety and security are our utmost priority,” they said.

On Saturday, a 1 minute 3 seconds video depicting an unknown man questioned for breaking into a hotel room the family stayed in went viral after being uploaded on Tik Tok by user ‘Dobi Dina’.

The incident received widespread attention from the public who questioned how the unfortunate incident could happen and how everyone should be more careful when staying in hotels.
