Fire breaks out in a hotel's kitchen, two injured

KOTA KINABALU – A chef suffered burns while his colleague was injured as fire broke out in the kitchen of a hotel, here, today.

In the 3.50pm incident, the victim identified as Mohd Nuzul was rushed to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for treatment while another victim known as David sustained minor injuries.

Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department chief Ordine Gilu said they received a distress call at 4pm and seven firemen from the department were deployed to the scene.

“Based on the report, the fire was caused by a gas leak and the hotel employees managed to control the fire before the team got there.

“The gas valve was shut off by the hotel’s employee, but two victims were injured in the incident. One was sent to the hospital by ambulance while another one who sustained minor injuries declined to go to the hospital,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian.

Ordine said the department inspected the premises to ensure that everything was safe and the operation was called off at 4.37pm.
