Houseman’s death: Police to record family members’ statements

GEORGETOWN – Police will record statements from family members of a houseman attached to the Penang General Hospital who fell from a building here recently.

Acting Northeast district police chief Superintendent V. Saravanan said that police have recorded statements from doctors and housemates of the victim in connection with the incident.

However, Saravanan said police were still investigating the cause of death of the houseman.

“We will record statements from family members of the victim this week. Other than that, we are still waiting for the post-mortem result, lab test, and chemical test regarding the cause of death.

“Up until now, the case is still classified as sudden death,” he said when contacted today.

It was understood that the victim fell from the window of his rented apartment unit on the 23rd floor in Jalan Dato Keramat here.

The 25-year-old victim was a graduate of a private higher learning institution.

State Health Department director Dr Maarof Sudin had said the police were investigating the incident and all quarters were urged not to make any speculation or spread unverified information.

He said the state health department and Penang General Hospital would give full cooperation to the police to complete the investigation.

The Penang government also urged Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar to set up a special inquiry committee into the incident.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the establishment of the inquiry was important to identify the real cause of the incident and prevent it from recurring, especially involving trainee doctors in the country.
