SHAH ALAM - Former PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar apologised if she had "hurt" anyone over her recent statement that it will take the opposition two rounds of elections to win back Putrajaya.

She said she was stating the worst-case scenario.

But being part of Generation X, referring to those born between 1965 to 1980, she has seen the heat of the political climate, with her party only winning only one parliamentary seat in 2004.

Due to that, she said the opposition needs to be cautious and be better prepared for any eventuality.

"Maybe that is my way (of saying) but that does not mean we lose hope," she said in a Sinar Harian talkshow with Tan Sri Johan Jaafar.

Nurul Izzah made headlines recently when she told opposition that Ph would need 10 years to win back Putrajaya. She further predicted PH may lose several parliamentary and state assembly seats and called on the opposition bloc to be more realistic than they were in GE14.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook immediately disagreed with Nurul Izzah's statement stating PH should enter the 15th general election (GE15) knowing that it need not wait another 10 years to win federal power, as a lack of confidence would result in a “walkover” for ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN).

During the talkshow, Nurul Izzah, the Permatang Pauh MP was asked on PKR's poor performance in Melaka and Sarawak state elections despite using the party logo.

She said it was not surprising as Umno seems to have a stronger hold.

"More Umno voters came out to vote even though there wasn't much increase within their voters too," she said. Johor elections held in March saw only 54.2 per cent of voters casting their voters.

Referring to a Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) 2018 research, BN lost the May 2018 polls due to higher youth turnout which accounted for 41 per cent. The youths, she said were the kingmakers at the 2018 polls.

Due to that, Nurul Izaah is now focusing on fence-sitters as they are the kingmakers for GE15.

"They may be disappointed with politicians. We are also disappointed with the process. We want to let them know that their votes count (to make a difference)," said the former PKR vice president who is now active with recently launched Ayuh Malaysia campaign with PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli to woo fence-sitters nationwide.
