SHAH ALAM - A medical watchdog has urged all healthcare professionals experiencing any personal issues to reach out to them, this comes after sudden death of a houseman attached to a Penang Hospital.

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr Koh Kar Chai said healthcare professionals could contact MMA's HelpDoc at www.mma.org.my, a phone service for doctors to air grievances about their job and personal problems in confidence.

This comes after a houseman attached to Penang Hospital died after he fell from an office building along Jalan Datuk Keramat. The houseman, whose identity has been withheld at his parent's request was sent to the hospital just three weeks before his sudden death.

Dr Koh further urged the public to give space to authorities to conduct a thorough probe over the death of the houseman and to respect the privacy of the family.

"MMA is saddened upon receiving news of a houseman, attached to Penang Hospital, who was reported to have died after falling from an office building along Jalan Datuk Keramat in the state.

"We hope the incident will not be sensationalised." he said in a statement.

This is believed to be the second death of a junior doctor in the last two years.

Another doctor who resigned from the same hospital died tragically in December 2020 which eventually triggered an outrage among his colleagues, who wanted the authorities to probe the matter.
