SHAH ALAM - For the first time, the Malaysian Battalion 850-9 (Malbatt 850-9) team organised the World #QuranHour: The World Prostrates in Lebanon on April 26.

A total of 854 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) serving under the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission (UN) were led by MALBATT 850-9 Contingent Commander Colonel Megat Maz Ardi Nohuddin.

They were committed in carrying out their duties as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil), progressively guided by the mandate entrusted to them for a year there.

Megat Maz Ardi said the programme to interact with the Quran through reading, understanding and practice was the best platform to encourage Muslims to read the Quran and understand its contents better.

“The Quran is important to remind ourselves of Allah SWT. It gives us the peace of mind by reading the word of God. The programme directly provides an opportunity for us to hold tadarus (group Quran recitation) during this holy month.

“Besides that, Ramadan also reminds us of the Battle of Badr event and other battles that Prophet SAW had fought in, where Allah SWT helped the Muslim army who were obedient to Him and the Prophet SAW.

“This makes us stronger and lifts our spirit when we are on the battlefield because we believe that Allah SWT will help us. We are also excited to serve in the land of Lebanon, the land of prophets," he said.

Asked how it felt working abroad, he said it was heartbreaking for him and his fellow comrades not being able to celebrate Hari Raya with their families.

However, he said family members understood their duty to serve the country.

“To our families, take care of yourself and your health, drive carefully. Remember us who are far away from home when you eat your ketupat and kuih-muih," he said.
