KUALA TERENGGANU – The state government announces Thursday (May 5) as a special holiday here in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the decision was made at the state government’s meeting today where they agreed to announce the special holiday on Thursday (May 5) if Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on Tuesday (May 3).

He said with the special holiday, members of the public in the state could spend more time with their families during the festive season.

“To make it simpler, since the first Hari Raya Aidilfitri on May 3 is on Tuesday, Wednesday is also a public holiday and there's only one day left (before the weekend) so this is why the state government announces the special holiday," he said.

Ahmad Samsuri made the announcement at the Terengganu Women's Day celebration at Dewan Besar Wisma Darul Iman here today.

Earlier, it was reported that the date to sight the new moon for Syawal had been set on Sunday at 29 locations nationwide and the date would be announced on the same night through radio and television. - AWANI
