KUALA LUMPUR - A successful nation is a nation that stays awake at night and works during the day, said International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) president Datuk Dr Mohd Daud Bakar.

He said the combination of the two things was important to create wealth so that it could be shared with those in need.

“Get less sleep and do a lot of work during the day to create wealth so that we could give infaq (spending in the path of Allah).

"You could not pay extra zakat if you have no property," he said in a press conference after attending the World #QuranHour 2022 programme at the TV AlHijrah Studio, here, on Tuesday.

He said nowadays, the community tended to discuss the issue of property distribution, but gave less focus on how to generate income itself.

“It is easy to distribute but to build wealth and create a new economy in the society, that's the challenge," he said.

Mohd Daud said Muslims should strive to accumulate wealth to create a better life in this world and in the hereafter.

"So, (if) we want to create wealth, the Quran says after Friday prayers go out, do not sit in the mosque, go seek sustenance and explore.
