Respect separation of powers, urges former court of appeal judge

SHAH ALAM - Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should not be investigating Court of Appeal judge Nazlan Mohd Ghazali for an unexplained RM1 million in his bank account.
Former Court of Appeal Judge Tan Seri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said separation of powers needs to be respected.
"Allegations by 'blogger' essentially involve the conduct of the judge. For this, the Federal Constitution and the judge’s code of ethics should be used," he told Sinar Harian, adding that MACC should not be involve.
The MACC has said it was probing Nazlan over the alleged unexplained sum of money in his bank account.
This came after an article in the Malaysia Today blog by Raja Petra Kamarudin on April 20 claimed that Nazlan was being investigated over the alleged RM1 million in his account.
Nazlan lodged a police report over the article on April 22, saying it contained baseless claims.
He was promoted to the Court of Appeal in February this year. While serving as High Court judge in July 2020, he found former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak guilty of misappropriating SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, totalling RM42 million.
Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court in a media statement said Nazlan denies the false allegations also disrupting the justice system and judicial institutions.
