AFTER a week of an alleged document believed to be meeting minutes by Pas leaders was leak to the public, the issue remains hotly debated among the nation’s top political leaders.

The four-page document allegedly reveals the meeting between two of Pas senior leaders along with other Perikatan Nasional (PN) component party leaders on how to topple Umno and BN.

Among the leaders that have commented on the matter is Pas vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Shamsuri Mokhtar, an individual which the document alleged was involved in the meetings.

However, on Wednesday Ahmad Shamsuri denied the party’s involvement and classified the document as “sampah” (rubbish).

Meanwhile, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has claimed that he will lodge a police report on the documents as it contains elements of interference in his ongoing criminal cases.

At the same time, PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin on Thursday also denied that such a discussion ever existed as alleged by the documents.

Other Pas leaders such as party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and its vice president Senator Datuk Idris Ahmad have also commented on the issue.

Abdul Hadi stated that his party will not entertain the issue as they classify the documents as “surat layang” or poison pen letter that was deliberately propagated to damage the party’s image.

Meanwhile, Idris also said that the published documents were an attempt to disrupt the relations of Malay based parties in the country.

At the same time, the Prime Minister who is also Umno vice president, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri briefly commented, stating that he is unable to ascertain whether the documents were valid or otherwise.

Clearly, the failure of Pas to sternly denied the documents will only prolong the issue.

In fact, the issue will impact the cooperation of all parties involved for the coming 15th general election.
