ALOR SETAR: Two men and a woman were found dead after they were believed to have been trapped when a fire broke out at a karaoke joint in Putra Mergong here today.

Deputy director of Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Syufa’at Kamaron said the male victims were identified as Jeffrey Tan Yan Wei, 30, and Mark Barry, 32, while the woman was identified as Kim Mei Kit, 31.

“The first victim was retrieved at 12.39 pm at the VVIP room located on the ground floor, while the second and third victims were found at VVIP room 2 at 12.58pm.

“All three victims were pronounced dead by a medical team from the Health Ministry,” he said in a statement.

Syufa’at said 21 firemen were deployed to the scene, and they also received assistance from voluntary firefighters from Jalan Kundor, Kampung Berjaya, Taman Mutiara, Kilang Tebu, Kuala Kedah, Sebarang Nyonya as well as police and Health Ministry.

“As soon as the operation team arrived, the two-storey building was engulfed in fire and there was a lot of smoke.

He said the victims’ cause of deaths are still unknown and further investigation is underway.
