SHAH ALAM - Police say they will continue to fine those without facemask in public areas after an earlier news report sighting an April 20 circular stating otherwise.

In a statement, Bukit Aman said the mask mandate is still in force during the transition to the endemic phase that began on April 1.

"It is still compulsory to wear the facemask in public areas.

"The police will issue compound for those found breaching the SOP under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Act 1988," it said.

Earlier, it was reported that a police circular dated April 20 stating the National Security Council had issued a new SOP of not wearing a facemask in light of Hari Raya celebrations.
