PUTRAJAYA- The Immigration Department (JIM) has stepped up surveillance at two of its National Service Training Centres (PLKN) used as temporary detention depots for refugees.

This follows after 528 Rohingya detainees escaped from the Sg Bakap detention center, Penang at about 4.30am today.

Its director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said officers running the temporary detention depots Beranang, Selangor and Bidor, Perak has contacted the nearby police stations for assistance.

"The warning system has also been activated because we do not want similar incidents at other depots," he said.
