'We don't care about the MoU' Umno man tells DAP
KUALA LUMPUR - Selangor Barisan Nasional leader has told DAP that the opposition needs to understand that the memorandum of understanding (MoU)signed in September last year is between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the government, and "not with Umno".
This comes after DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook on April 16 said that any decision and issue regarding the MoU need to be formally discussed between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the coalition’s top leadership.
The state information chief Isham Jalil said Umno has "never agreed on the MoU" with PH and due to that the biggest Malay party is not bound to the agreement.
"We don't care about the MoU, that's why we are not bound to suggest to the prime minister to dissolve the Parliament," he said.
He further said Umno has decided not to continue nor support even "if the government wants to continue with the MoU. If we do suggest to the prime minister to dissolve the Parliament then it should be our decision."
He was speaking to reporters after a joint press conference with PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil over a public debate between former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the Sapura Energy Bhd issue will be held at 9pm, May 12.
This comes as speculation is rife over a snap general election in August this year.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the MoU ends the moment Parliament is dissolved.
"It is clearly stated in MoU that the government has agreed not to dissolve the Parliament before July 31st. We must remember that the right to dissolve the Parliament falls with the Cabinet after the prime minister presents it to Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his consideration," he said.
