SEREMBAN - The Negeri Sembilan State Education Department (JPNS) does not prevent teachers from using TikTok for educational purposes.

JPNS director Datuk Md Fiah Md Jamin said however, teachers are not allowed to record videos of students.

"If it (TikTok) can be used as a medium to help children understand better and elevate their spirit to learn in a controlled and civilised manner, I think there should be no problem.

"JPNS does not prohibit this as long as it is not against the law," he said at a breaking of fast event, at a hotel here on Thursday.

He said so far JPNS has not received any complaints from parents who were unhappy with the matter.

However, he reminded all teachers to not go overboard in using the application.

On Thursday, Sinar Harian reported that the National Union of Teaching Professions (NUTP) advised educators to use TikTok for learning purposes and not using it to make themselves famous.

NUTP president Aminuddin Awang said the union supported the use of social media, especially TikTok for learning purposes, but not for it to be used in the classroom during face to face learning.
