SHAH ALAM - Following the spread of the Omicron variant infection, the elderly and individuals with comorbidities are advised to postpone their overseas travel plans.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the group should also avoid crowded places.

"If you are going abroad, please be careful and continue practicing the standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said.

He said forgetting to wear face masks, observe physical distancing, avoid crowded places and practice self-isolation when symptoms developed, will only give Covid-19 a chance to mutate and become more susceptible to infection.

"We might become a victim (of Covid-19) as a result of being careless," he said during a press conference on the development of the Omicron variant at the ministry on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, he said the need to take the booster dose should not be taken lightly.

“If you are eligible to receive a booster dose and got an appointment, please go and get the booster shot.

"With the existence of Omicron, the ministry strongly encourages people to receive the booster dose," he said.
