Nurul Izzah staying out of party elections, to focus on Ayuh Malaysia instead
SHAH ALAM - Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar announced that she will not be contesting in the upcoming PKR elections, choosing to focus on Ayuh Malaysia - a political initiative aimed to revitalise her party and the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.
Her aim is to now win fence-sitters, undecided voters, and the ordinary public not actively invested in the matter of politics through the Ayuh Malaysia platform as these are the core supporters of PKR.
Both Nurul Izzah and former PKR leader Rafizi Ramli decided to reach out to this base by forming the campaign.
Over 8,000 volunteers were recruited within a week compared to the 44,000 both coalition PH and PKR took a year and a half to drum up previously.
The campaign also saw RM200,000 collected via crowdfunding efforts.
Nominations for PKR's internal party elections began yesterday (April 11) and will last until Tuesday (April 19) involving all PKR divisions nationwide.
Though Nurul Izzah announced that she will not be participating in the party election, she assured to fully support those that will be contesting in this year's elections.
She was one of four vice presidents (VPs) elected following the PKR congress in November 2018.
A month later, she announced her resignation as the VP and the party's Penang chapter chief on Dec 17.
"Resigning from any position is not the final stop for the struggles the party has to endure.
"On the contrary, it is an introspective step to remind everyone, including myself, about the importance of restoring the confidence of the people to us, as well as the party leadership to the struggle of the original reform," she explained in her post.
