MetMalaysia issues strong wind alert, advised Sabahans to be on high alert
SHAH ALAM - Sabahans are told to be on "high alert" and check for weather updates every three hours following Tropical Storm Megi off the coast of Sabah.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement said that Tropical Storm Megi as of 9am today was detected 144km northwest of Surigao City, Philippines or 950 km northeast of Sandakan, Sabah.
“This tropical storm is almost stationary and the maximum wind speed is 65 km/h. This situation can cause strong winds in Sabah waters,” said MetMalaysia director general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah.
Met Malaysia has issued strong winds and rough seas warning in the eastern waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang, Labuan, Palawan, and Sulu.
This forecast, which was released at 10 am today was said to be in effect throughout the day.
“The public in the affected areas are advised to be on high alert and to closely follow the latest news on Tropical Storm Meg, which will be updated every three hours.
“This information can be obtained through the myCuaca website and mobile app. People can also contact the MET Malaysia hotline for any further inquiries,” he added.
